The National Day of Volunteering is for anyone and everyone! Whether you’re an individual who wants to volunteer, a volunteer involving organisation or a business, there are plenty of ways to get involved! Why get involved? Because volunteering benefits everyone and makes us stronger. Together we can build stronger neighbourhoods, stronger communities, a stronger Ireland.

How to get involved

Individual Volunteers
Individuals can volunteer in many ways. You can join an already registered event, plan your own volunteering project, thank a volunteer or commit a random act of volunteering. Joining a pre-registered event is easy. Simply take a look at our list of registered events under the Get Involved section and choose one that is in your area and that peaks your interest. Or if you’ve noticed an area in your community that needs some sprucing up why not gather a group of friends, family or colleagues and create your own event? We have plenty of helpful step-by-step guides to guide you through the planning process. Two other ways to get involved are to simply Thank a volunteer or commit a Random Act of Volunteering. Both of these are simple and can be done from behind your desk or on your way to the store or work! Whichever way you choose to get involved with NDV just make sure to inform us of the difference you are making!

Volunteer Involving Organisations
There are plenty of ways for organistions to get involved with NVW. VIOs can use NVW as an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge its existing volunteers and staff or to recruit new volunteers! Once a project has been decided make sure to register the event with us. If some inspiration is needed check out our themed project guides to see what others have done in previous years.

Businesses and Corporates
Whether it’s from behind a desk or during lunch hour there are plenty of ways for Ireland’s business men and women to get involved during NDV. One way is to open the doors of your business to the community! Invite local children into your business and take the afternoon to show them what you do! Or simply take the time to Thank a volunteer. This can be done by placing the volunteer’s name on our Honour Roll of Volunteers, or by using the list of Easy Ways to Thank a Volunteer. Another simple way to get involved is to commit a Random Act of Volunteering. An Random Act of Volunteering (RAV) doesn’t cost any money, it just takes a kind gesture. For RAV inspiration visit our compiled list of examples. Also, make sure to tell us about your involvement with NVW by registering with us online.
